Board of Christian Education
Honoring Jesus by Serving Others
Responsibilities
The Board of Christian Education meets on the first Monday of the each month at 6:00 pm
in the school library. Parents and church members are welcome to attend.
The Board consists of 7 members elected by the voters’ assembly. One of those 7 members
will be elected to the position of Chairperson by the board members. The Principal and ECE
Director serve on the Board as an ex-officio member.
The Board’s role is not to administer the school but to make policy, establish goals, and
direction for the school, and perform fiscal oversight of the school’s funds.
It will make decisions in terms of the educational welfare of children and will seek to
develop and maintain that Zion Lutheran School meet the individual needs of all children
regardless of their ability, race, creed, sex, or social standing.
Each board member will hold confidential all matters pertaining to Zion Lutheran School
which if disclosed, would needlessly injure individuals or the school. In all other matters,
the board will provide accurate information and interpret to the staff and parents the
aspirations of the church community for the school.
Complaint Handling
Complaints must follow the steps that have been outlined in the “Family Handbook”.
The board asks that you remember the following steps.
- Talk directly to the teacher or staff member about the concern.
- If after a day or two, the concern is not to the parents’ satisfaction, schedule a meeting
with the principal. The principal will ensure that all involved meet together to discuss concern.
- After the above two steps have been followed, and the parents feel the concern is still not
properly addressed, parents may appeal their concern directly to the Board of Education by
submitting in writing their request. In consultation with the Board chair parents may attend
the necessary Board meeting.
In our dealings with each other, let us remember the Lord’s words in Matthew 18:15ff, “If a brother sins
against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens, you have won your
brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be
established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.” The prime goal of the staff of Zion Lutheran
School is to assist parents in raising Christian children. Our dealings with each other are examples
of the Christian life we are trying to teach them.
The Board of Christian Education will only act on complaints at public meetings only after
failure of an administrative solution.
Every complaint that comes to the board following this process will be thoroughly investigated.
The board’s decision and final determination will be final.
